Two schools compete to see which can raise the most money for their school at MOD Pizza. Each school has one day to try and raise as much money as possible. Anyone who comes into the Bixby Knolls MOD Pizza on October 17th and mentions Longfellow Elementary PTA will contribute 20% of their bill back to Longfellow! The school that raises the most will be named the winning school and MOD Pizza will donate an ADDITIONAL 10% making the total donation for the winning school 30%!

Harvest Festival Help Needed!

Our annual Harvest Festival needs help from our wonderful Longfellow community to make it happen!  Here are ways you can participate:

Pie Contest - Sign up to enter the (dessert) pie contest in the child or adult category OR be a judge! Sign up HERE

Bake Sale - Everyone loves our Bake Sale. If you can donate or bake goodies, sign up HERE

Volunteers - We need volunteers to help run our many activities, to set up and to clean up. You are welcome to have your child help you work a booth. One hour of your time helps us immensely!  Sign up to volunteer HERE

Tables and EZ Ups - Please bring your tables and/or EZ Ups! We need so many to make this event happen! Please sign up HERE

Clippers Read to Achieve


STUDENTS LOG READING: Monday, Oct. 7 - Friday, Nov. 15


The Longfellow PTA has teamed up with the Los Angeles Clippers to promote regular reading with the 2019 Read to Achieve Program!

All students are encouraged to participate by logging their reading on a tracking sheet for a 6-week period from Oct. 7 - Nov. 15 for a chance to earn rewards and prizes. All students who participate will receive a certificate of participation and any student who logs at least 1,000 minutes will earn a special price. Additionally students have an opportunity to be invited to a Clippers home game and participate in an on-court presentation.

Class Baskets for Harvest Festival

Room Parents will be coordinating class donation baskets for Harvest Festival. Each class is asked to put together a themed basket that will go up for auction at the Harvest Festival. Some of the fun themes are movies, Legos, and superheroes! Check in with your room parent to find out what your class has been assigned and please consider donating an item or funds toward the basket. All proceeds support the many programs and events Longfellow PTA sponsors like music with Mr. Petri, class fieldtrips, Parents & Pastries, Family Movie Night, and much more!


2019 Harvest Festival Wristbands

Save time and don't wait in line the day of the Harvest Festival! Buy your wristbands now! Wristbands are $10 per person and non-transferable. Entrance into the Harvest Festival is free for all, but wristbands are required for certain activities. Each wristband covers the following activities for kids (and of course adults who want to participate):

-Unlimited carnival games
-Inflatable games
-Panning for gold
-Trackless train
-Spin art
-Face painting
-Pie walk & contest
-Inflatable obstacle course

Wristbands purchased online will ONLY be available for pick up the day of the Harvest Festival at the wristband sales line. Just give the banker your name and they will have your wristbands for you.

VIPs - Free TB Testing

Interested in volunteering in your child's classroom? Make sure to submit your VIP application now as it can take several weeks for the district to process the paperwork. VIP clearance is needed to volunteer in the classroom, to be a Meet the Masters docent, to go on class fieldtrips, and more. Make sure to submit results from a recent TB test with your application. More details on applying as a VIP can be found HERE.


Join PTA!

Join PTA! Help PTA meet our goal of reaching 750 members by October 31! We currently have 527 proud members...223 to go! Become a member and help your child's class earn 100% membership rate to earn a pizza party!!

PTA General Meeting: Tues, Oct. 15

Come out to our second general meeting of the school year on Tuesday, October 15 at 6pm in the auditorium. Our principal, Mr. Sigur, will share his report as will Mary Yung, PTA president. Stay up to date with PTA events and programs and be active in PTA's decisions. Your PTA membership allows you to vote in PTA decisions! View the agenda for the meeting by clicking HERE.

Childcare is provided during the Meeting. There will be a general Reflections art workshop where students can work on their Reflections entry. Some tools and supplies will be provided.

Family Movie Night - Oct 18

Last day to pre-order whole pizzas for Movie Night is this Wednesday, October 16. XL - 16" Cheese or Pepperoni pizza for pre-sale only is $10. Pizza will NOT be sold at the event. You are welcome to pack your own snacks and a meal to enjoy during the movie as well.

Come on out Friday, October 18 for Movie Night, a free event to all Longfellow families! The movie will be The Greatest Showan! Chairs can be set up on the playground starting at 6:00 pm, and the movie will start once it is dark. We will have drinks, chips, and dessert items for sale that evening. 


Reflections Submissions Due - Monday, Oct. 21

UPDATE: Reflections submissions are due on Friday, October 18 Monday, October 21 by 3PM to the office. There is a red bin outside of the office where entries can be placed. Digital file submissions for film production, choreography, and music composition can be emailed to reflections@LBLongfellowPTA.org. Please make sure to submit an entry form as well. Check the HERE for submission guidelines, rules and the entry form.

All submissions should be an original, expressive piece focused on the theme, "Look Within" in any of the different categories: 

  • -dance choreograph
  • -film production
  • -literature
  • -music composition
  • -photography
  • -visual arts

Red Ribbon Week is October 21-25. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign and students will learn the importance of living a safe, healthy, and drug-free life. This year's theme is: Send a Message. Stay Drug Free.

Fall Picture Day: Thursday, Oct. 24


Retakes for Fall Pictures are scheduled for Thursday, October 24. Students are required to dress in school uniform. 


Flag Ceremony - Nov. 1

Come out for the monthly Flag Ceremony on the first Friday of the month. November's Flag Ceremony will be on November 1 at 8:00 am. Grades 1-5 gather around in the Rose Garden for the flag salute and to hear announcements from Principal Sigur, Mrs. Reyes (school counselor), and the PTA. Parents are welcome to attend as well.


2019 Harvest Festival: Saturday, November 2

Longfellow's annual Harvest Festival will be happening on Saturday, November 2. It's a day of fun for families. Enjoy games, activities, a pie walk, and more. Mark you calendar for Longfellow PTA's biggest family event of the year! For more info on the Harvest Festival, click HERE.


Red Cross Blood Drive - April 5

The Red Cross blood mobile will be at Longfellow on Monday, November 4 from 12-6PM. Consider signing up to donate blood. You don't need a special reason to donate blood.
