The Green Team is committed to reducing waste while teaching students about the positive effects of recycling. Longfellow has had a “Friday Recycling” program for many, many years.  Members of our school’s community bring bottles and cans to school on Friday before school, and they are sorted by parent volunteers and turned into money for our school.

The first recycling effort for the school year will be starting on

Friday, October 5.

Longfellow Grades K-2
Please drop off items (aluminum and plastic bottles only) on Fridays next to the cafeteria on the bungalow side.

LF@Riley Grade 3-5
A purple recycle bin will be available in the grassy area on Fridays for LF@Riley students to drop off items (aluminum and plastic bottles only) before boarding the bus.

We are always in need of more volunteers! The commitment involves coming to sort recyclables next to the cafeteria exit (on the bungalow side) from approximately 7:45am until 8:30am, once every few weeks.  Parent volunteers recycle in groups of 2 to 4 people, so it is a great way to meet other parents at Longfellow and get to know more about what is going on at our wonderful school.  If you are interested in being a part of this program, please email Yadira Alfaro at
