The Longfellow PTA has teamed up with the Los Angeles Clippers to promote regular reading with the 2019 Read to Achieve Program! All students are encouraged to participate by logging their reading on a tracking sheet for a 6-week period from Oct. 7 - Nov. 15 for a chance to earn rewards and prizes. Long Beach Basket Brigade - Donation Request
  Each year the Long Beach Basket Brigade collects food and donations to assemble Thanksgiving meal baskets for local families in need. Longfellow Girl Scout Troop 2383 is collecting cranberry sauce to add to their baskets. Currently the Basket Brigade is in need of 250 more cans of cranberry sauce. Please bring a can (or 2) of cranberry sauce with you to school this week and drop it in the bins near the office by Thursday, 11/21. Congratulations to all students and the award recipients who completed entries in the various categories: Visual Art, Photography, Music Composition, Dance Choreography, and Literature. Red Cross Blood Drive - Nov 4
The Red Cross blood drive held Monday, November 4 at Longfellow was a success! Here are the blood drive results: *Projection/Goal:  18 pints *Collected:  21 pints *2 Deferrals That means that Longfellow Elementary saved up to 63 lives and gave hope to many families. Thank you to the donors! If you were a donor and gave the name of a Longfellow student, that student will be receiving a medal this week for being a pint-size. Longfellow is Getting a Multi-sport Court!!
On Saturday, August 17 approximately 250 volunteers + children will be part of the exciting playground build. Longfellow PTA has been working with KaBOOM! and Foresters Financial, the funding partner for the project, to plan all the work it will take to create a new play space for Longfellow students and the local community. The main feature will be a Multi-Sport Court that will allow children the opportunity to play soccer, volleyball, or tennis. Have you had a chance to see our NEW SPORTS COURT and upgraded playground?! The dream to make over the Longfellow playground has been 10 years in the making and it's finally happened! Our playground committee worked with Kaboom this last year and Longfellow was chosen to receive a Sports Court and additional playground upgrades! While the bulk of the cost was paid for by Foresters Financial via a KaBOOM! grant, PTA easily had the additional funds needed on our end to make this happen due to amazing fundraising from the Jogathon. Has your child come home talking about joining the Green Team at Longfellow? All grade levels participated in a Green Team assembly where students were taught about the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
