Dear Longfellow Families,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!  I hope everyone has had a summer filled with memories to last a lifetime.  Although we have been on vacation, I can share that, true to Longfellow form, our staff and teachers have been working diligently behind the scenes to prepare for a successful start to the new school year.

Along with our official Longfellow Parent and Caregiver Handbook, here is some brief information to guide you and your child through the opening of the school year…

School Office Hours – Our office will be open to the public starting on Tuesday, August 22, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Class Placements – Your child’s assigned teacher will be available in ParentVue starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25.  Thank you for your patience, as the system typically experiences delays in the first few hours.

The First Day of School – Our first day of school is Wednesday, August 30th.  This is a minimum day for all students in grades TK-5, with dismissal at 1:00 p.m.  There will be playground supervision until 3:00 p.m.

TK and Kindergarten Minimum DaysONLY TK and Kindergarten students will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m., from August 30th to September 15th.  Starting on September 18th, they will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m.

Second Day of School – As with all Thursdays, all students are dismissed at 1:30 p.m., except for TK and Kindergarten, which are dismissed at 1:00 p.m. each day through September 15th.

Campus Access – We are a closed campus in the morning.  Thank you for dropping your child off at the gate.  There will be an abundance of staff to guide students to their classroom in a safe and orderly manner.  Starting this school year, parents and caregivers may enter the campus through the front gate for pick-up.  Campus will then be closed again at 2:30 p.m.

Bell Schedule on Regular Days – The Longfellow playground is open beginning at 7:40 a.m. each day, and playground supervision ends at 3:00 p.m.  Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. to 7:50 a.m. Per District rules, only TK parents/caregivers are permitted to join their child in the cafeteria.  Please see the bell schedule in our school’s handbook for detailed start and end times, as well as times for recess and lunch.

Uniform Policy – Please see the handbook for details regarding our uniform policy.
